Kolkata airport closed for 21 hours, dozens of trains cancelled, know what preparations are in place to deal with Cyclone 'Remal'

The storm will hit at midnight on May 26. On an average, more than 300 flights depart from Kolkata Airport every day. The Kolkata Airport Authority said hundreds of flights have been canceled due to the incident. Apart from this, the airport authorities have taken special precautions to avoid damage during the storm. This storm, which has formed in the Bay of Bengal, will become a severe storm from the morning of May 26. It will make landfall between Sagar Island and Kebupara in the coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal around midnight on May 26. According to the Meteorological Department, the wind speed will be 110 to 120 kmph. Wind speed is 135 kmph. A gust of up to 90 km per hour is likely in Kolkata. Temporarily wind speed may increase up to 130 kmph. Heavy rain warning in Kolkata: Storms with a speed of 70 to 80 kmph are likely to hit the remaining four districts including Kolkata. A gust of up to 90 kmph is possible if the wind speed increases temporarily. Orange alert is in effect for Bassim Medinipur, East Burdwan, Nadia. Also, the storm is 34 to 45 km per hour. Heavy rain is likely in the rest of the southern districts. A yellow alert has been issued there. In this case, the Kolkata airport decided to restrict air traffic.
