After Singapore, Hong Kong, neighboring Nepal has also banned the import and sale of some spice products from Indian companies over alleged quality concerns. According to Nepal’s Food Technology and Quality Control Department, these two Indian spice brands have banned products from Friday due to suspected ethylene oxide or ETO contamination. So under this ban, sambhar masala powder, mix masala curry powder and fish curry masala have been banned.

The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, in a notice issued on Friday, said that the amount of ethylene oxide in these four products was found to be higher than the prescribed criteria. So as per the Food Act 2027 BS, a ban has been imposed on the sale of such products within the country. The notice said, “We have come to the attention of media reports which have stated that these inferior products are harmful for sale and use in the market. The Food Quality Control Surveillance Organization has asked the imported traders to take back this product from the market
Singapore and Hong Kong also banned it

Last month, Singapore and Hong Kong cited suspected levels of some ETOs linked to cancer. So the sale of two Indian spice brands was stopped. The Food Safety and Standards Bureau of India has since taken concrete steps to check the quality of different brands of spices in the country. While Britain has put a ban on all spices imported from India and has increased import checks. Britain’s food director said it has imposed additional restrictions on all spices imported from India.
