Stock market Today: The stock market continued to rise at the beginning of the second session of special trading on Saturday and BSE Sensex gained 68.17 points. National Stock Exchange's Nifty also remained in the lead. The domestic stock market rose for the third consecutive day due to buying by foreign institutional investors.
The Sensex based on 30 shares stood at 73,978.71 points with a rise of 68.17 points. NSE Nifty also stood at 22,493.10 points with a gain of 28.20 points.
NSE and BSE had on May 7 said they would hold a special trading session in the equities and stock futures and options segments on May 18 to check their preparedness to deal with a major disruption or failure on their primary platforms. During the special trading session, trading will be shifted from the Primary Site (PR) to the Emergency (DR) site.

The exchange had said in separate circulars that there would be two sessions of trading. The first session will be from 9:15 am to 10 am and the second session will be from 11:30 am to 12:30 noon. Among the companies included in the Sensex group, Nestle, Power Grid IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and SBI registered major gains.
On the contrary, JSW Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Titan and Maruti remained in loss. Most of the US stock markets closed with gains on Friday.
Mehta Equities Ltd. Prashant Tapase, Senior Vice President (Research), said, “The Dow Jones Industrial Average has reached 40,000 for the first time. The reason for this is the softening of inflation more than expected. This has increased expectations of a policy rate cut by the US Federal Reserve. This positive sentiment had an impact on the domestic market.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned buyers on Friday after several days of continuous withdrawals. According to stock market data, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 1,616.79 crore. VK Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist, Geojit Financial Services, said, “Stock markets will continue to get global support with the US Dow Jones reaching record levels. Now FIIs have also become buyers and this has reduced the pressure on the market.
On Friday, BSE Sensex rose 253.31 points to 73,917.03 and NSE Nifty rose 62.25 points to close at 22,466.10. Earlier on March 2 also, BSE and NSE had organized a special trading session in shares and share futures and options segment.
DR i.e. emergency site is generally used to ensure business continuity in the event of a major disruption at the primary site.
