Political parties with the support of criminal candidates! Criminal case against 360 in the fourth phase, 17 convicted
Lok Sabha Elections 2024: There are many candidates in the Lok Sabha elections against whom criminal cases including murder and kidnapping are pending. 21 percent of the candidates contesting in the fourth phase have criminal cases against them, of which 17 candidates have been convicted for their crimes. While 11 cases of murder, 30 cases of attempt to murder have been registered. Whereas 50 candidates have been accused of atrocities on women.
According to the ADR report, a total of 1710 candidates are contesting in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, out of which 360 have declared criminal cases registered against them before the Election Commission, which is 21 percent of the total candidates. Information about assets and educational qualifications has also been disclosed. These figures prove that the trend of giving tickets to people with criminal records still persists.
If we see which parties have given more tickets to candidates with criminal cases, in the fourth phase BJP has got 40 out of 70, Congress 35 out of 61, TDP 9 out of 17, Shiv Sena 2 out of 3, AIMIM Has got 3 seats. 3 out of 8 TMC candidates and 7 out of 19 SP candidates are involved in such criminal cases. Whereas candidates with serious criminal records include 32 from BJP, 22 from Congress, 10 from BRS, 9 from YSR Congress. While the number of candidates with cases of various crimes against women is 50, out of which 5 are also accused of rape. Whereas 44 are also accused of hate speech i.e. inflammatory speech.
Candidates have also declared their assets and educational qualifications. According to which, out of 1710 candidates in the fourth phase, 476 are crorepatis whose average wealth is Rs 1 crore. Whereas there are 24 candidates who have claimed that they do not have assets worth even a single rupee. Among the crorepati candidates, the maximum number of candidates are 65 from BJP, 56 from Congress and 24 from YSR Congress. TDP’s Dr. Chandrashekhar Pemmasamy has the highest assets worth Rs 5705 crore, BJP’s Konda Reddy has assets worth Rs 4568 crore. In the report, the Association for Democratic Rights (ADR) organization has recommended banning candidates convicted in serious crime cases from contesting elections, including inclusion of political parties in the RTI Act, and imposing serious penalties against those giving false information in election affidavits. Penalties etc. are included. ,

Of the 1710 candidates in the fourth phase, the average educational qualification of 644 candidates is between class five to class 12, 944 candidates are graduates, while 30 candidates have declared themselves only educated. There are 26 candidates who do not have any educational qualification. The average age of 624 candidates is 25 to 40 years, 842 candidates are 41 to 60 years and 226 candidates are 61 to 80 years.
