Agriculture Department’s big warning to Gujaratis: Do not use vegetables without washing them with clean water

health News: It is advised not to use unwashed vegetables. The State Agriculture Department has stated the amount of pesticides in the vegetables available in the market. He said that vegetables should be used with caution as they are harmful to health and cannot be easily removed with clean water.

Farmers in the state have also been told by the Agriculture Director that pesticides remain in agricultural produce until it is harvested and used for food. Control measures announced to prevent these residues state that pesticides remain in the environment for a long time due to their slow decomposition process or are fat soluble and accumulate in the body through the process of biodegradation.

Vegetables should be washed thoroughly with clean water before use.

Important recommendations have been made by the Crop Safety Chemicals Registration Organization or Agricultural University to impose certain restrictions on the use of the drug in agricultural crops, vegetables, fruits and spice crops. Vegetables should be washed regularly with clean water before use, because washing vegetables with clean water reduces the residues of pesticides.

Residual quantity of pesticide should not exceed MRL

Whereas the maximum residue level (MRL) of pesticides in vegetables, fruits and grains etc. has been set by the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization. Residues above the MRL are considered harmful. If possible, rapidly degradable agrochemicals such as amamectin benzoate, spinosad, indoxacarb and novaluron should be used. Using integrated pest management will reduce the use of pesticides, thereby reducing pesticide residues.

Be careful when using household pesticides

Moreover, if proper precautions are not taken while using pesticides to control mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, rats etc. in the house, the pesticides get mixed with grains, water, flour etc. and its residues enter our body. Due to which various diseases occur. While controlling such pests, water containers, grain barrels, grain properties, etc. should be covered with cloth or plastic before spraying pesticides.

If there is moisture in the grains, then use them only after drying them in the sun and use airtight barrels for storing grains.
