Nature’s havoc, 80 earthquakes occurred here in one day, condition of people – News India Live
Taiwan’s east coast was once again shaken by a strong earthquake. More than 80 earthquake tremors were felt here from Monday night to Tuesday morning. The most powerful of these quakes measured 6.3, shaking several buildings in the capital, Taipei. People were seen quite scared due to the strong tremors of the earthquake, although there was no news of any casualty.
A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the island nation earlier this month, killing 13 people and injuring more than 1,000. The earthquake was centered off the coast of rural and mountainous Hualien County. It was the most powerful earthquake in Taiwan in 25 years and was followed by hundreds of aftershocks.
This time too the earthquake was centered in Hualien, Taiwan’s rural eastern county. The fire department in Hualien said Tuesday morning that a hotel that had already been damaged on April 3 and was no longer operating was now leaning slightly on its side.
Taiwan is located near the junction of two tectonic plates, where strong earthquakes are often felt. A very powerful earthquake struck southern Taiwan in 2016, killing more than 100 people, while a magnitude 7.3 quake in 1999 killed more than 2,000.
