Filing a case against a baptized Sikh in Italy for wearing a kirpan is against the religious freedom of Sikhs: Advocate Dhami
Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee Chairman Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the action filed against Amritdhari Sikh Gurbachan Singh in Milan, Italy for wearing a kirpan. The Shiromani Committee President said that the Constitution of his country India also gives freedom to Sikhs to wear the kirpan, hence the Italian government should also consider the concerns of the Sikhs and give freedom to the Sikhs to wear the kirpan in their country.
Even in developed countries like America, Canada and Britain, Sikhs are allowed to wear kirpan. Advocate Dhami also appealed to the Sikh community of Italy to strongly oppose the case registered against Gurbachan Singh and give complete information about it to the Shiromani Committee. Advocate Dhami said that to cancel this case, a letter will be written to the Italian Ambassador to India and the Ministry of External Affairs of India, expressing strong objection and information will be sent about the rights of Sikhs and the importance of the Kirpan. Also appealed to the Foreign Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar to talk to the Italian government in the case of Gurbachan Singh and get the papers filed against him canceled.
