Deteriorating situation in Myanmar, transfer of Indian Consulate employees in view of security

New Delhi: In view of the worsening situation in Myanmar, India has shifted its employees from the Indian Consulate in Sittwe to Yangon. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that India is closely monitoring the security situation in Myanmar.

What did the Foreign Ministry say?

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Jaiswal said in his weekly briefing that we are closely monitoring the security situation in Myanmar, especially Rakhine State. Necessary steps have been taken to ensure the safety of our citizens. We have temporarily relocated our staff from the Consulate General in Sittwe to Yangon. Our Consulate in Mandalay is fully functional.

‘Follow safety protocols’

He said that some time ago we had issued an advisory for our citizens so that they can take proper precautions. Indians traveling to Myanmar should follow proper safety protocols and take precautions. The embassy is there to take care of them.
