New Delhi : The Central Government has decided to provide Z category VIP security to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. In view of the possible danger to them, armed commandos will now be deployed for their protection. On the instructions of the Union Home Ministry, CRPF will provide about 40-45 security personnel for the security of Rajiv Kumar. Government sources said on Tuesday that central intelligence agencies have recommended that Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar be informed of the threat. Therefore they need to be given tight security. His recommendation is in the context of the seven-phase general elections starting from April 19.
Sources said that the Chief Election Commissioner will get Z security while traveling anywhere in the country except his office in Delhi, Nirvachan Bhawan and his residence. The Chief Election Commissioner and two other Election Commissioners currently receive a small armed security force from the Delhi Police. This is the first time that the Chief Election Commissioner is being given central security cover. Earlier, late former Chief Election Commissioner TN Session was given central security for some time.
