SRH vs CSK scorecard, IPL 2024, Match 17 highlights: SRH return to winning ways with thumping win
SRH vs CSK highlights: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), on Friday (April 5), thrashed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets to return to winning ways in IPL 2024. Chasing 166, SRH crossed the finishing line in the 19th over.
SRH made a blistering start with the bat as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma added 46 runs in just 16 balls for the first wicket. Head was dropped for a duck in the very first over before he hit a six in the same over to get going.
In the second over, Sharma took Mukesh Choudhary to the cleaners. The left-handed batsman hit the pacer for three sixes and two fours to collect 27 runs. In the third over, he hit a six and a four against Deepak Chahar as well before being dismissed in the same over. He departed after scoring 37 runs off just 12 balls.
Sharma’s dismissal, however, did not affect SRH’s momentum much as Head and Aiden Markram batted at a good pace. At the end of the powerplay, SRH were on 78 for 1. The duo took the score past the 100-run mark before Maheesh Theekshana dismissed Head. The Australia star scored 31 and added 60 runs with Markram for the second wicket.
Markram made the most of his start and went on to score his first fifty of the season. He scored exactly 50 off 36 balls and was dismissed by Moeen Ali in the 14th over. Nine runs later, Moeen struck again to send back Shahbaz Ahmed and reduced SRH to 141 for 4. Klaasen and Nitish Reddy then took SRH home.
SRH vs CSK: CSK innings
Earlier in the game, CSK finished their innings on 165/5 in the allotted 20 overs after SRH captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first.
With SRH and Mumbai Indians scoring over 500 runs in the last game played at the venue, more fireworks were expected from CSK. However, they failed to get off to a flying start. Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Rachin Ravindra for just 12 runs and CSK’s innings hardly had any impetus in the powerplay.
At the end of the powerplay, CSK were on 48 for 1. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was the next to go. He was dismissed by Shahbaz Ahmed for 26 runs in the eighth over. With the team reeling at 54 for 2 in the 8th over, CSK needed a quick innings and Shivam Dube delivered for them once again. He hit Shahbaz for a six and a four in the same over to open his account.
In the ninth over, he hit another six and a four against Mayank Markande to take the run-rate to almost 9 after the end of the ninth over. Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat then pulled things back by conceding 4 and 6 respectively in the next two overs before Dube broke the shackles by hitting T Natarajan for two sixes in the 12th over.
But before Dube could inflict further damage, Cummins struck to send him back in the 14th over. The southpaw departed after scoring 45 off 24 balls. He shared a 65-run stand with Rahane and left his team at 119 for 3 in the 14th over. After Dube’s dismissal, CSK’ run-rate dropped once again as they managed to score only 45 runs from the last six overs.
