Citroen Basalt Debut Tomorrow – Everything We Know So Far
Platform
The upcoming Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe uses the French automaker’s highly versatile CMP platform. As a result, the Basalt SUV Coupe shares its underpinnings with Citroen’s C3 Aircross SUV and C3 hatchback.
Category
The upcoming Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe will be sold alongside the Citroen C3 Aircross SUV in the highly competitive C-segment SUV category, where it will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and other SUVs.
Exterior
The design of the Citroen Basalt is very unique, thanks to its coupe-like roofline. Also, unlike the C3 Aircross SUV, the teaser image of the Basalt SUV Coupe hints at the presence of LED taillamps and reveals a sharkfin antenna.
As such, we expect the upcoming Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe to come with a few more premium bits compared to the C3 Aircross SUV. In fact, we even expect the upcoming Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe to feature LED headlamps as well.
Interior
Expect the upcoming Citroen Basalt to be slightly more feature-rich than the C3 Aircross with features such as ventilated front seats, wireless charging pad, electrically adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, auto headlamps and wipers, and a few more.
Powertrain
The upcoming Citroen Basalt is likely to sport the same powertrain as the Citroen C3 Aircross SUV. Moreover, we also expect to see the automatic variant of the Citroen Basalt Vision at the launch of the model.
This 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine in the C3 Aircross SUV is tuned to produce 108.4bhp and 190Nm of torque (torque jumps to 205Nm in the automatic variant). Also, gearbox options include a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic unit.
Launch
According to Citroen India, the upcoming Basalt SUV Coupe will be revealed on March 27. However, we are not sure if the French automaker intends to reveal the pricing on the same day itself.
Thoughts About The New Citroen Basalt
With two products in the highly competitive C-segment SUV, Citoren India is poised to make its mark in the Indian automobile market. However, to be successful, Citroen must ensure that the Basalt is more than just a beautiful SUV.
