The seventeenth edition of Indian Premier League – IPL 2024 is scheduled to start with the league phase on March 22, and end with the final on May 26 as 10 teams return to battle for the most coveted title.
New season brings new faces in the playing personnel and the backroom staff of several teams. The new season also allows for introduction of some new set of rules that have been used in domestic cricket and international cricket.
IPL 2024 will retain some of the standard T20 rules of the number of overs, number of players with a tweak, the playing duration among many other playing conditions to obtain a result and more.

How many bouncers is allowed per bowler in IPL 2024?
Bowlers will be allowed to deliver two bouncers per over, replicating the change in playing conditions that was trialled during the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India’s domestic T20 tournament. Earlier, only one short-ball per over was allowed in IPL.
How many players can feature in a IPL match? Is there Impact Player in IPL 2024?
11 players can feature on each side of an IPL game like every other cricket match. But the captain can introduce another player as an Impact Player, replacing one of the Indian players from the starting 11.
How does the Impact Player rule work in IPL?
Under the IPL Impact Player rule, a team will have to list four substitutes at the toss in addition to the playing XI. They can use any one of the four substitutes as their Impact Player.
How many overseas players are allowed in each playing 11 in IPL?
The overseas players limit is four. A team can use even less than four overseas players in their playing 11, meaning a team could use 3, 2, 1 or 0 foreign players in their line-up, but can’t name more than four in the matchday 11.
Can overseas player be used as Impact Subs in IPL?
If four overseas players are being named in a team’s playing 11, then they can only bring in an Indian as the Impact Player. This is to limit the number of overseas players per game to four per team.
However, if a team names only three or lesser overseas players in their playing 11, then they can bring in a foreign player as the Impact Player if the said player is be among the four substitutes named at the toss.
Is there DRS in IPL? How many Unsuccessful Reviews will each team have?
Yes, each team will be allowed two unsuccessful reviews each in each innings. So, Team A and Team B will have two reviews when fielding and two when batting. The TV umpire will be allowed to use UltraEdge and HawkEye technologies for edge detection and ball-tracking.
Can DRS be used to challenge calls for wides and no balls in IPL?
Yes, technology can be used to challenge an on-field wide or no ball during the Indian Premier League season 17 in addition to the regular LBW and caught-behind dismissals in the game.
Will the TV upmire still check for caught behind when an umpire reviews for stumping?
Yes, there will be a check for a catch when an on-field umpire’s referral is made for stumping in IPL. The ICC has done away with this rule, but BCCI will continue to use it in the upcoming season.
Is there strategic time out in the IPL 2024?
Yes, each innings has two strategic time outs. The strategic time out windows are overs 6-9 and 13-16. The fielding team uses the powerplay first window and then the batting team.
