DY Patil T20 Cup 2024 Quarter-Final Results: Dhawan’s Knock in Vain; Samad, Chahal’s Teams Enter Semis

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan’s valiant unbeaten knock of 99 went in vain as DY Patil Blue lost to CAG by six wickets in the first quarter-final of the DY Patil T20 Cup 2024 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday (March 7).

In the second quarter-final at the DY Patil University Ground, Tata Sports Club thrashed Indian Oil by a whopping 60 runs to make it to the semi-final.

 

At the DY Patil Stadium, Blue after being asked to bat was well served by a 52 run opening stand between Abhijit Tomar and Dhawan. Right through the innings Dhawan carried the bat as wickets fell around. At one stage Blue had been reduced to 98 for four.

Dhawan ended unbeaten on 99 off just 51 balls with eight boundaries and six sixes. For CAG the best bowlers were Sanveer Singh (2-30) and Writwick Chatterjee (2-23). Blue finished on 182 for six in their 20 overs.

The chase for CAG was fashioned by opener Varun Lavande (73: 53b, 9×4, 2×6). Towards the end Sanveer Singh played an unbeaten cameo worth 45 off 27 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. CAG finished on 185 for four in 19.1 overs to win by six wickets.

At the University ground, Tata made 232 for five in their 20 overs. Sufiyan Shaikh (64: 36b, 7×4, 2×6) added 107 runs for the second wicket with Chinmay Sutar (61: 39b, 5×4, 3×6).

Only Rohan Raje (2-38) managed to hold his nerves in the face of extreme pressure. In their response Indian Oil kept losing wickets at regular intervals. For Tata the best bowler was Shorabh Phaliwal (3-15). Indian Oil was finally bowled out for 172 in 19.4 overs.

Samad delivers the knockout punch to Hardik Pandya & Reliance 1 in quarters

Jammu and Kashmir’s rising star Abdul Samad played a blinder of a knock for DY Patil Red to deliver a knockout punch to defending champion Reliance 1 in the fourth quarter-final of the 18th DY Patil T20 Cup at the DY Patil Stadium.

Reliance 1 posted 188 for six after opting to bat. The top-scorer for Reliance was Vishnu Vinod (79: 40b, 9×4, 4×6). For Red the best bowler was Prince B (3-30).

The chase for Red started well as their openers Aman Khan (40) and Siddharth Patidar (36) added 62 runs. Then Samad took charge of the chase as he remained unbeaten on 49 off 31 balls with four boundaries and three sixes.

Samad added an unbroken 70 runs for the fifth wicket with Parth Sahani (25 n.o.). Red overhauled the chase in 19.4 overs to finish on 189 for four.

At the University Ground Income Tax thrashed Jain Irrigation by a massive 122 runs. After opting to bat, Income Tax posted 205 for six in their 20 overs and in their response Jain was shot out for a mere 83 in 13.2 overs.

The top-scorer for Income Tax was their captain Mahipal Lomror (55 n.o.: 33b, 2×4, 4×6). Openers Vishant More (43) and Chirag Gandhi (38) added 89 for the first wicket. For Jain the best bowler was Sairaj Patil (3-35).

Jain’s chase never really took off as they lost wickets at regular intervals. For Income Tax the best bowlers were Sumit Kumar (3-22), Ishan Porel (3-10) and India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (3-17).

When and where is the semi-final being played?

On Saturday (March 9) at the Stadium, CAG will take on DY Patil Red in the first semi-final, whereas at the nearby University Ground Tata Sports Club will play Income Tax in the second semi-final. The final will be staged later on Saturday evening at the DY Patil Stadium.
