Dhruv Jurel can be that person’ – Sunil Gavaskar reflects on Dhruv Jurel’s role for RR in IPL 2024
With the new season of the tournament rapidly approaching, there are a plethora of stars in the Royals’ lineup.
One of the standout performers for the side could be Indian youngster Dhruv Jurel. The up-and-coming star showed glimpses of class in the IPL 2023 and cemented himself as a top player in India’s recently concluded Test series against England.
Ahead of the new IPL season, former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar took centre stage and talked of how Jurel can make a big impact for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024. It is worth noting that Rajasthan Royals kick off their IPL 2024 campaign by taking on Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on March 24.
“Dhruv Jurel can be that person definitely. The way he has batted this year and the way he batted in the IPL last IPL, he can definitely get a promotion up the order,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.
Death over bowling is a weakness on the MI side: Gavaskar
Furthermore, Sunil Gavaskar gave his take on the five-time champion Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024 as well. With the new season approaching, there is no doubt that MI is one of the biggest favourites to win the title, and according to Gavaskar, one of the few weaknesses in the side is its death bowling.
“Death over bowling. Bumrah is there, but maybe from the other side, runs will be leaked. So this, I think is a weakness on the Mumbai Indians side,” Gavaskar said.
However, the former batter did laud MI’s excellent batting lineup and their ability to post mammoth targets on the board, which could potentially cover the death bowling weakness for the Hardik Pandya-led side.
