Many celebrate this day as a wedding anniversary of Shakti with Shiva, for some it may be to praise His victory over demons. While others celebrate this day to worship His supreme power and stillness which is like Kailash Mountain.

While every person has their own reason to celebrate MahaShivRatri but let’s understand more on what MahaShivRatri is all about.

Let’s begin by breaking this word MahaShivRatri & you get three words- Maha which means Supreme, Shiv refers to Lord and Ratri meaning- the Night. MahaShivRatri the word itself speaks about celebration of the grandeur energy that evokes at night. In literal sense many people have different interpretations and significance attached with this celebration but its deeper than one can interpret.

To begin with let’s ask ourselves a question why is this MahaShivRatri time of Ratri (nighttime) and not Maha Shiv Diwas (day)?

Night or Ratri need not be literal here, but night can also signify the darkness of life in various form of dark human emotions such as anger, attachment, failure, greed, lust, and discontentment which makes our life toxic and creates barrier for our Moksha- the real soul purpose.

Human Life is a gift from God to make choice decisions and with wisdom make corrective actions to end the soul suffering and lead it to Shivdham by enlightening it to the righteous path of ending the cycle of birth & death.

But how do we achive that? MahaShivRatri is a festival when one can easily, please the Bholenath- God of simple & the innocent human beings with slight penance in the form of fasting, staying awake, doing chanting, meditating with erect spine etc.

Another name for Lord Shiva Chandrashekhar- One who beholds the Moon on his mane. Astrologically Moon creates emotions in human body. People with strong moon in their astrological chart have good financial liquidity, great romantic life,

a charismatic personality, and they stay calm even in chaotic situations and can find the best solutions or conclude judgements. Whereas a person with bad moon has vice-versa situations- no liquidity or cash flow, short height or small feet,

health issues like insomnia and or they are always mentally disturbed with little stress and can take wrong decisions or can even commit heinous crime like murder out of anger or depression.

Lord Shiva the beholder of moon on his crown in Chandrashekhar form is an energy that epitomizes His control over various emotions positive and negative.

His story with Sati the avatar of Shakti and His commendable love & loyalty towards, various challenges He faced upon the loss of His beloved despite being a Trikaldarshi – one who knew the future and had forewarned Her yet He was sensitive and gave her the choice of free will to do as per her heart.

Despite Her mistake or destiny if we were to call yet in every re-birth of Her’s He only married & respected Her more each time. His better half- Devi is beautifully adorned, She exercises Her own wisdom and has a different temperament than Him yet He chooses her as His Twin flame & this form of Ardhnareshwar is the most powerful one as it has Their combined energies.
