CCL 2024 Final Result, Scorecard & Awards: Bengal Tigers Lift Maiden Celebrity Cricket League Title
Opting to bat, Jammy (57* off 29) smashed an unbeaten fifty in the first innings to power the Tigers to 118/4 in 10 overs, while Ananda’s spell of 3 for 16 put the brakes on Bulldozers, who crawled their way to 86/7 in their first innings, conceding a lead of 32 to the opposition.
Jammy once again starred with the bat, scoring 39 off 18 in their second innings to take Bengal Tigers to 105/4 in the allotted 10 overs to set a challenging target of 138 for Bulldozers to chase in the final innings of the title clash.
For Bulldozers, Jayaram Karthik and Chandan claimed 2 for 7 figures in 2 overs in the first and second innings respectively, but the other bowlers proved costly conceding more than 10 an over to put the team on the back foot.
Ananda, who was the star for Tigers in the first innings, could not repeat his heroics in the second essay as the spinner was taken to the cleaners by Rajeev Hanu. The knock from Rajeev gave the Bulldozers some hope, but Rahul’s double strike tilted the tie once again in the Tigers’ favour.
Darling Krishna, who was the Bulldozers’ highest run-getter, looked off-colour and struggled in the crucial title clash as he registered a two-ball duck in the first innings and added only 17 off 15 balls in the second as Jammy had the last laugh to seal the victory for Tigers by restricting Bulldozers at 125/6.
CCL All-Time Champions & Runners Up
Bengal Tigers players finished top of the charts for most runs and most wickets, which played a crucial role in their run to the final and their first-ever title in CCL since their debut in 2012. Following the win, Bengal Tigers paraded their skipper Jisshu Sengupta, who was in an embrace with his counterpart Kiccha Sudeep.
During the post-match ceremony, Kiccha Sudeep expressed his thoughts, terming it as an exceptional finale. He claimed the match was the epitome of what a final should entail.
The Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep, “I think it was a wonderful finale. This is how a finale should be. This is the first time I am not upset after losing. I tell my team to show their character, and the way they played in the 2nd innings, they showed they are Bulldozers. We can see the Tigers have worked. I think it’s a wonderful team! The ladies sitting out gave dangerous expressions and I was tensed! A big thank you to the crew and staff for putting up a great show!”
The victorious captain, Jisshu Sengupta, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I owe each and every moment to this entire team and their family and friends. In 9 years we were either champions from the bottom or 2nd from the bottom. Young guys have done really well. We have worked hard and hence we are the champions. I don’t have words to say, I am too emotional.”
Film producer Boney Kapoor, who was present during the post match ceremony replied, “Tigers are out of their cages and hence you’ve won!”
