No suspect is being searched: Police
Addressing a news conference, Police Chief Edwin Lopez said the quick actions of Doral city police “prevented an incident from escalating.”
“The officer was shot and killed, however, the officer was also shot in the lower back,” Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.
Police further said that they have taken witnesses into custody for questioning, but are not looking for any other suspects.
Lopez called the incident a “very disappointing day” for the South Florida community. “Every time a law enforcement officer is shot, it destroys the very fabric of our community. But we are grateful that he is alive and in stable condition, and we look forward to completing this investigation,” he said.
