6 Punjabis arrested in car theft case in Canada news in hindi

Police have arrested 16 suspects and issued arrest warrants for 10 others in connection with an auto theft investigation.
Canada News In Hindi: Toronto: Police have arrested 16 people, including six Punjabis, in connection with a string of car thefts in Canada. Canada's Peel Regional Police said they have arrested 16 suspects and issued arrest warrants for 10 others in connection with an investigation into auto thefts committed in a “highly planned criminal operation”.
Police said the Project Odyssey investigation began in October 2023 and involved hundreds of stolen vehicles destined for overseas markets. Peel police said 14 of the 26 suspects wanted in connection with the investigation were out on bail or bail for “auto theft-related offences.” A total of 322 charges have been filed against them so far, police said.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraipa said, “This is the most demanding auto theft investigation Peel Regional Police has ever conducted. As part of the investigation, 369 stolen vehicles, including two transport trucks, have been seized. According to police, the total value of the recovered vehicles is $33.2 million.
It is reported that 255 vehicles were recovered in Peel Region and a further 114 were recovered at the Port of Montreal. Investigators have identified a local trucking company that allegedly handled the shipment of stolen vehicles at the Port of Montreal A local company, trucking yard and a family in Peel Region were identified as being responsible for facilitating and loading motor vehicle transportation.
The stolen vehicles were driven to a local “intermodal hub” within the GTA and transported along the 401 corridor to the Port of Montreal. The vehicles were intended to be exported to ports in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The owners, workers, and operators of the trucking company were fully aware of and involved in the shipping of these stolen vehicles.
Investigators also identified several individuals involved in the theft and transportation of stolen vehicles from local areas within the Greater Toronto Area. Some of the vehicles were stolen during violent carjackings, police said. Birpal Singh, 29, of Brampton, was charged with trafficking in stolen goods over $5,000, conspiracy to commit a felony, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorised possession of a firearm, tampering with a gun serial number, breach of a court order. All of these charges have been laid.
Similarly, 34-year-old Harmeet Singh of Brampton, 29-year-old Guljinder Singh of Bolton, 41-year-old Gurpreet Dhillon of Brampton and 57-year-old Jagmohan Singh of Brampton were charged with one count of trafficking in stolen goods over 5,000 pounds and one count of committing a felony. Valbir Singh, 49, of Brampton has also been charged with conspiracy to commit a serious crime and trafficking in stolen goods over $5,000. At the time of his arrest, Valbir was on bail for crimes related to auto theft. Apart from these, the police have also released details of 10 other people arrested, against whom similar charges have been registered.
